Pull the Battery Terminal Connector towards you so that it does not touch the Battery Terminal when you release it. Wiggle and lift the Battery Front Cover (10) out of the way – it should come out easily. Loosen / remove the two 10mm nuts (11) that hold the Battery Retaining Bar against the Battery.

Hi. The missus has got an 05 1.6i petrol C-max with 57k on the clock. Apparently today the battery light came on and wouldn't go out.. I checked connections and everything was as should be so dug or my OBD2 cable and hooked it up to the laptop and ran the Formidable programme.

I've heard of problems like yours where swapping the battery for a new one fixes the problem, even though the original battery is apparently ok and works fine in other cars. Edited by: Ravenger.

This is done to maximise fuel economy. My theory on the battery drain (which seems to be the case on my C-Max) is that the faulty Glow plug relay is the cause. There is a known issue with the water ingress to the Glow plug relay module which I suspect only shows up when the engine is running.

I started the car 2004 cmax 1.6 diesel tcdi this afternoon and I heard this 'whirring' noise coming from the engine bay. Then my Ignition warning light came on. Looks like a battery (red). I understand its the alternator.

A lot of early C-Max's had this problem. And Ford had a tough time fixing it. It would appear that Ford never really found the root cause of the problem but they knew something was draining the battery. This is a complicated engine and drive train. Ford came up with multiple fixes.
